• 5TH SNAME International Symposium on ”Ship operations, management & economics”

    66fdb01e-4e20-4ca8-a9d1-636292dbff84The 5th International Symposium on ”Ship Operations, Management and Economics” (SOME), organized by the Greek Section of SNAME and the SNAME European Regional Office (SERO), took place at the Eugenides Foundation auditorium in Athens on May 28 & 29, 2015. More than 100 delegates from 8 different countries registered for the event, which is an example of why SNAME is ”The International Community for Maritime and Ocean Professionals”.

    SNAME President, Mr. Joe Comer opened the event followed by a keynote address, delivered by Dr. John Koustas, CEO and President of Danaos Corporation on, ”What Shipping Expects from Technology.” Three additional keynote speeches were presented by Dr. Jan de Kat, ABS Director of Energy Efficiency, Operational and Environmental, on ”Performance Efficiency & Optimization – Addressing Life Cycle Challenges;” Dr. Nikos Kakalis, Head of Maritime Research & Development, DNV GL Greece on ”Managing the Complexity of Ship Energy Systems’;” and Mr. Theodosis Stamatellos, Marine Area Manager GEMA, Lloyd’s Register on “Pulling the Regulatory Rope in a Tug of War.”
    Among the speakers there were two of our members, Dr. G. Gougoulidis and Mr. N. Vasileiadis who presented a paper entitled “An Overview of Hydrodynamic Energy Efficiency Improvement Measures”
  • Environment & Energy in Ships 2015

    20150524_102459The 1st international conference Environment & Energy in Ships (EEinS 2015) coorganized by ASHRAE, the Hellenic Navy, the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and the ASHRAE Hellenic Chapter took place in May 22-24, 2015 at the facilities of the Yacht Club of Greece and the Hellenic Naval Academy. The highly successful conference, relevant to both military and commercial ships, was attended by several members of our institute some of which presented technical papers.
